Fruit presentation
Students have been working on making a Google Slide presentation on their choice of an exotic fruit. As it's most of the students' first time using the Google platform for school work, it has been a very engaging activity for them. Along with practicing their writing skills, students got to learn many computer skills such as:
- Changing the keyboard setting to be able to write letters that are specific to the French language (é, à, ç, etc.)
- Following writing conventions on an electronic document (putting a space after a period or comma, etc.)
- Many skills within Google Slides Application (adding slides, editing texts, inserting and manipulating images, sharing documents with others, etc.)
- Research information by using key words on Google (with safe browsing feature).
Students have completed their research and making of the presentation and teacher feedback has been given. Students had additional time to improve their presentation using the feedback. The next step is presenting their slides to the class. Here are some success criteria:
- Students will use the images included in their presentation, for example, by indicating them and making connections to the information they are providing on the current slide. (thinking and communication)
- Students show a good level of preparation by not reading off the slides and by varying the information on the slides by using different sentence structures and synonyms. (knowledge and thinking)
- Students demonstrates a dynamic and engaging voice. (communication)
- Students demonstrates fluency and uses an appropriate ton and volume for the size of the audience. (communication)
- Students demonstrates awareness of the audience by placing themselves in a strategic location and by looking at the audience. (thinking)
- The length of the presentation is as required (less than 5 minutes). (thinking)
- Students applies their knowledge of the structure of an oral presentation (clear introduction and closure, specific vocabulary for the presentation - greeting, thanking, linking words, etc., makes personal connections, etc.)
Some presentation specific expressions to be considered:
Bonjour, je m'appelle _____.
J'ai choisi _______ pour ma présentation du fruit exotique.
Je vais parler de _________
Je voudrais partager avec vous ___________
J'ai fait une recherche sur _________
Voici une image de _______
Comme vous pouvez remarque, __________
Comme vous pouvez voir, _________
Ce fruit me rappelle ________
Ensuite, ________
J'ai appris que _______
J'ai inclus cette image car _________
Pour finir ______
Finalement _______
Une question que j'ai après ce projet, c'est que __________
Merci d'avoir écouté ma présentation. Est-ce qu'il y a des questions ou des commentaires ?
Students are able to access to their presentations from home using their login information that they keep in their agenda. If students have no access to computer / internet, I can provide a hard copy. When they access to their file at home, make sure to use
TYPE STUDENT NUMBER HERE@gapps.yrdsb.ca
Students can access to the presentation at home to practice for their oral presentation. Students should not be modifying the presentation at home as any work done at home cannot be assessed (if any editing has been done at home, their version before feedback will be used for their final mark). Students have been given enough time to work on their presentation at school.
The presentations will start next week.
If there is any questions, please let me know. via extension 224 or Remind messages. Thank you for your support!

April 2018 Newsletter
Dear Parents and/or Guardians, April 2018
I hope you and your family had a relaxing week off in March. Thankfully, better weather is slowly approaching! Here are a few updates for the month of April:
Housekeeping:
With the rainy season upon us, if your child does not have extra clothes already at school, please consider sending some extra pairs of socks and pants in case they get muddy and wet at recess.
A reminder to students to continue to read daily and complete their reading log. Daily homework completion and reading is essential to reinforcing concepts taught throughout the day and their work habit in this regard will be reflected in assessing their learning skills.
Curriculum Corner:
• Math
We will be continuing to work on our unit of Number Sense and Numeration where we will be learning to do multiplication and division, as well as exploring fractions. Our next math unit will be Measurement.
• Language
In Writing, we are continuing to work on our creative / descriptive writing using rich sentences. We are also working on our digital literacy by incorporating a variety of functions of Google Platform (Slides and Docs). In Reading we will be working on asking questions while we read to deepen our reading comprehension and learn to expand vocabulary using available resources.
• Health
In Health, we will continue to learn how to expand our healthy choice of food using different food guides. We will also start learning about good/bad habits and daily choices that affect our health and well-being.
Mark your calendars for these important dates:
April 4 – Parents engagement evening on mental health topics Part 1 - 7:00-8:15pm.
April 11 – 20 minute makeover with Councillor Racco from the Town of Vaughan. Please refer to the two forms sent home last week for permissions (one for no-participation and the other for consent for media event).
April 12 – RDSP’s first ECO FAIR – Parents are invited to visit the fair in the tarmac area in front of the portables (in the gym if it rains) from 9:00am-12:00pm.
April 19 – Parents engagement evening on mental health topics Part 2 - 7:00-8:15pm.
April 20 – wacky hair/clothes/hat day.
April 20 & 27 - Bike safety presentations for primary students.
