Students will be creating a toy that uses at least 2 forces that we have learned.
Page 2 describes expectations.
1. The toy should be mostly made of recycled materials.
2. The toy should not be a weapon or has dangerous (pointy, sharp) parts.
3. The toy includes moving parts that use at least two forces to move.
4. Students must think of the concepts discussed in class.
5. The toy should be visually pleasing, creative, clean and fun!
6. Students should be able to explain how they created the toy step by step.
7. Using science vocabulary, students should be able to explain how their toy works, what forces it uses, and what effect these forces have on its movement. - they will be having an oral presentation on their toy at the end of the project.
Students have done some research using Google Images where they looked up some examples using keywords such as:
"self-made toys" "jouets avec des matériaux de recyclage"
and made sketches of some ideas that interested them on the page 3.
Their homework today (21st) is page 4, where they will ask someone at home to share their ideas and get some advice (des conseils) from them to decide what they want to make.
Some materials that school will provide them with are:
Basic construction materials (glues, scissors, construction paper)
Hot glue (teacher will assist)
Strings, straws, paper plates, clips, elastic bands, paints, tapes, staplers.
Students are to use as much recycles materials as possible such as
boxes, bottles, bottle caps, etc.
Students can start bringing materials as soon as they have decided what they will make. Please make sure that all materials are contained in a bag and label the child's name on the materials that you want back home after the project is over.
